How to get the best gaming PC under 700? Buyers Guide

First of all let me tell you that you can get a decent gaming PC under 700 dollars but you will have to make some sacrifices.

As a rule, the more money you spend, the better gaming PC you’ll get and the better performance it will offer in games.

So, let’s see what are the things we need to keep in mind before buying our new desktop:

1. Get the right CPU:

You need a good CPU for your gaming PC. The game is CPU intensive therefore, you need to get a powerful CPU for your build.

We need to keep in mind that the performance of our PC mostly depends on the type of processor we choose for our desktop.

The Intel i5 and i7 CPUs are the best for gaming performance but they’re also more expensive than other processors.

2. Get a powerful GPU:

You need a good graphics card for your build too. The better the graphics card is, the more FPS you’ll be able to get in games (Frames Per Second).

There are two main types of GPUs on the market — integrated and dedicated cards. You can find most of them inside gaming laptops or even on pre-built desktops but if you want to get a decent one for your build, then you should go with dedicated cards which are much faster and more efficient as compared to integrated graphics cards.

3. Get enough RAM:

RAM (Random Access Memory) stores data while your computer runs programs and it’s one of the most important parts regarding gaming performance as well as daily use.

Most modern games require at least 8 GB of RAM to play games on high/max settings but if you want to run more than one application at once, then 16 GB or even higher is recommended. Gaming PCs under $700 come with 4-8 GB RAM which will be enough for most games but not all so remember that increasing RAM will increase performance as well.

4. Decide between HDD and SSD:

HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive (hard drive) and SSD stands for Solid State Drive (solid-state drive).

HDDs have spinning disks inside them which are slower than SSDs but have larger storage space than them (1 TB HDD vs 128 GB SSD). SSDs on the other hand aren’t so big in storage space but they run much faster thanks to their non-moving parts and no moving heads except when reading data from/writing data onto their disks. (takes a few seconds vs tens of minutes).

Nowadays many people prefer using an SSD with a large storage capacity rather than HDD because many game developers(Blizzard Entertainment) recommend users to save their game files on an external disk instead of saving them in an internal disk because they might corrupt due to shortage of space.

5. Choose between Case fans or liquid cooling:

Cases come with fans already installed and sometimes they’re useless considering their size so what you should do is either buy good case fans that can cool down your system or go with a liquid cooling system instead.

Liquid cooling systems are much better than normal ones because they’re entirely sealed units that don’t need regular cleaning like normal case fans do otherwise dust accumulation may lead to overheating problems. (Remove dust from fans regularly.)

6. Buy Additional Storage if needed:

If you think that 128GB SSD isn’t enough for you then go ahead and add more storage or an additional hard disk drive depending upon what kind of motherboard your pc has got. (Most motherboards only support 1 SSD) If not, then buy external hard drives which are cheaper nowadays.

7. Choose between sound cards or motherboard sound chips:

Both sound cards and motherboard chips provide decent sound quality so it’s up to you whether you want extra features such as surround sound or mic input/outputs etc…or just stick with the motherboard built-in audio solution.

8. Consider buying keyboard+mouse combo:

It’s somehow recommended considering how much time we spend playing games on PC nowadays(mostly late-night sessions). There are plenty of decent keyboards+mice combos out there these days ranging from around $30-$60 dollars according to your choice.

9 . Consider buying a monitor+speakers combo:

This isn’t really needed unless you use multimedia applications often. You can get decent monitors for around $150 from Amazon these days.

Frequently Ask Questions-Best Gaming PC Under 700

Q: How powerful is the PC under $700?

A: You will be able to play almost all games on high settings, however it’s recommended to buy a gaming rig under 700 dollars if you want to play most demanding games like Witcher 3 or GTA V.

Q: Is it worth investing in a gaming PC build under 700?

A:  Definitely yes, with the release of the most anticipated game 2022 “PUBG” and other games, there is no doubt that you need a decent PC to run them smoothly. Plus, PCs have much more advantages than consoles.

Q: Should I buy a prebuilt gaming PC or build my own gaming PC?

A:   You will get a good prebuilt desktop for $700 but if you are patient enough and willing to spare some time then building your gaming computer will be much more fun.

Q: Is it possible to get good performance for games for $700?

A: Yes, you can get a good gaming experience on your TV with an average budget gaming desktop under $700 dollars.

Q: What is the best processor for $700?

A:  The best CPU for this price point is AMD Ryzen 3 1200. It’s a 4 core 8 thread model which is clocked at 3.1 GHz, so you’ll be able to handle all the basic tasks like browsing, watching movies, and playing some less demanding games.

Q: What kind of RAM should I choose for my new gaming desktop for under 700 dollars?

A:  8GB DDR4 RAM is what you will need in order to play most of the modern games smoothly at medium settings on 1080p resolution. If we talk about the best RAM for this price point then it’s Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 2400MHz.

Q: What are the best components for my gaming desktop under $700?

A: CPU-

Intel Core i5 7th generation processor [4 cores] – 2.4GHz up to 3.40 GHz, 6MB Cache: It’s the best processor for gaming desktops under 700 dollars.

It’s fast enough for running any game and also cools down pretty well, even compared to Intel Core i7 7700K Kaby Lake which is far more expensive. So, I would definitely recommend getting this one as your CPU.

Motherboard-

ASRock H110 Pro BTC+: This motherboard comes with 6x SATA ports and 1x M.2 ports which allows you to use both M.2 SSD and HDD in your desktop build for under $700.

With this motherboard, you’ll get an easy way of connecting your devices to the motherboard and have a more stable connection that you can use in the future as well. This motherboard also has enough slots for connecting RAM and supports up to 32 GB DDR4 memory which is enough even for most demanding games.

For this board, I’ll also recommend getting Kingston Technology HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM.

Graphics Card-
XFX Radeon RX 470 4GB Black Edition Graphics Card – ATX:

This graphics card is not that powerful but still good for getting started with your first build under $700. If you want something more powerful then read our full guide about what is the best graphics card for gaming.

For running the most popular AAA titles like GTA V or Witcher 3 on high settings, this graphics card will be able to handle these games easily without any lags. It also has 4GB GDDR5 memory which will help in running newer titles without any problems.

However if we compare it with the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB OC edition, we can see that it consumes much more power (~100W more) than the GTX 1050 Ti so keep that in mind while buying it.

Case-NZXT S340 ATX Mid Tower Computer Case-Black/Blue:

This case comes with 2 fans (1 front fan and 1 back fan), plenty of space inside the case, and looks nice. It also provides great airflow so there should never be any overheating issues with this case unless you overclock your CPU or put too many additional components inside your case.

For this case I recommend getting a Cooler Master Sickleflow Blue LED 120mm Fan, it’ll provide better airflow than stock fans included in this case without increasing noise levels significantly at all.

Overall, I think it’s a great choice for building a budget gaming PC under $700. You might want to check out our detailed guide about how big a computer case is before buying one.

Power Supply-

EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular PSU: EVGA makes some of the best PSUs (Power Supply Units) right now, they last forever and perform great when powering up our components.

The only downside of this PSU is that there are no semi-modular cables included.

However, if we are going to spend around $600-$700 on our build then I don’t think we need semi-modular cables considering that we won’t be using many extra peripherals anyway. All in all, it’s an amazing power supply unit from EVGA which I would highly recommend for those who want a solid PSU with reliable performance.

You might also want to check out Corsair CXM series CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply, another good choice for building a reliable gaming PC under $700.

RAM-

Kingston Technology HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM: RAM prices have been pretty much stable recently so I don’t think there are huge differences between the different brands of RAM available right now considering they are all made by Samsung or Micron mostly…

I would prefer to go with some trusted brand just like Kingston because they don’t make bad products overall despite being cheaper than their competitors. If we compare Kingston Technology HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM with Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz C16 Memory Kit CMK16GX4M2A2666C16R, both cost the same but we can see that Kingston gets better results on benchmarks…

So I would definitely go with Kingston RAM instead of Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz C16 Memory Kit CMK16GX4M2A2666C16R, however, if you need faster RAM then read our full guide about what is the best ram speed for gaming.
